A milling machine is used to machine flat or irregular surfaces on a workpiece clamped on a horizontal movable bed. A milling machine uses a rotating milling cutter to shape, drill, bore and slot a workpiece. A milling machine is classified as Horizonal or Vertical referring to the horizontal or vertical position on the spindle.
The most commonly use types are Turret milling machines and Universal Milling machines. Turret milling machines are also known as the Bridgeport-type Milling machine with a step-pulley head or variable speed belt head. The Turret mill has repositioning capabilities which makes this machine very versatile and ideal for the general engineering environment.
